Who it is for

Wheelchair basketball teams begin for children at six years old and continue through adulthood. Teams are available for both men and women players. Players must have a disability that affects their lower extremities which can include, but is not limited to, amputation, spinal cord injury, spina bifida, cerebral palsy, and leg length discrepancy among other conditions.

You do not need to be an everyday wheelchair user to play wheelchair sports. Please ask the program coordinator for more information.

What to expect

Courage Kenny hosts several wheelchair basketball teams:

  • developmental
  • prep
  • junior varsity
  • varsity
  • adult

You will be placed on a team according to your age and skill level. Each team requires different travel commitments. The program coordinator will help you determine the right team for you.

Good to know

The only equipment needed is a sports wheelchair. Athletes do not need to use a wheelchair for every day mobility in order to play. We offer an equipment loan program to provide specialized sports wheelchairs so you can fully participate in a season.

Courage Kenny Rehabilitation Institute wheelchair basketball programs are nationally renowned for having developed college-level, US national team and Paralympic athletes.
